When You or Others Need Help
We are inherently social beings, thriving when we are connected with others. Many of us were raised to be incredibly independent and do things on our own. There are numerous benefits to engaging with and helping others others. Psychologists have found that in addition to fostering social connectedness, reaching out and working with others can reduce loneliness, boost positive mental health and create a sense of positive well-being.
Unfortunately, there are situations that arise that absolutely require reaching out for help -- for not just emotional support, but physical support and safety. If you find a family member, friend, tenant or other person who has gotten overwhelmed with cleaning, decluttering or managing their household safety, this is definitely not a time to go it alone.
On a practical level, while you want to help the person right away by potentially cleaning a cluttered and unsanitary space, it may lead to a host of additional issues, such as:
